Advent Drawings, 2018

This piece is from a small series I made in 2018 during the season of Advent. Advent is an important time of waiting and reflection in the liturgical calendar. It’s a time where we descend into a quiet time of contemplation as we await the arrival of light with Jesus’ birth. In these drawings I was reflecting on ideas of light and dark, and ways that I could explore this on paper with ink and graphite. I referenced images I took in nature of flickering light reflections, intricate shadows, textures of dense rock, soft ethereal grasses blowing in the wind, and deep lines carved into rock.
